Minister wants clan origins documented, income projects initiated

State Minister for Works and Transport in charge of Transport, Mr Fred Byamukama, has stressed the importance of tracing, documenting and informing members of their clan origins and totems in Bunyoro.
Speaking as chief guest at the get together meeting for Abaligira, Abazira, Abafunjo clan members in Buhamba village, Kitoba sub-county in Hoima district, the minister said such an arrangement will enable clan members to be kept abreast of their identity.
Besides documenting, retelling the history to the members at their every clan gathering will enable information and knowledge flow and cultural identity for infinite posterity, he added.
The minister who is also a Muligira, Muzira, Mufunjo clan member advised that clans should move an extra mile of initiating income generating projects that like savings and credit institutions so they can cause socio-economic transformation at clan level for improved standards of living.
At the end of year get together meeting, Mr Byamukama pledged to contribute Shs10m towards the formation of the Abaligira, Abazira, Abafunjo clan Savings And Credit Cooperative Organisation (Sacco) with intent to enable clan members regularly pool their savings and subsequently obtain loans which they will be using for difference purposes.
He told the clan members that forming the Sacco will enhance social and economic success as the initiative will promote individual savings and make credits available to the members.
Speaking at the same function, the head of the Abaligira, Abazira, Abafunjo clan in Hoima district, Mr Fred Byarubanga Kakoraki, urged the clan members to grow enough food for their families.
He cited millet and cassava as perennial crops that are good food famine fighters at household level.
The Abaligira, Abazira, Abafunjo originate from one ancestry, according to history.
