Five in custody over car theft in Bunyoro

Police in the Albertine Region are holding five people in connection with the theft of vehicles, reveals the Albertine territorial police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Julius Allan Hakiza.

The police officer told Kazi-njema News on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, that the suspects whose identities were concealed for fear of jeopardising investigations, were arrested in the course of the week. These are currently helping the police in investigations over the cars that were stolen between December 2022 and January 2023.

The suspects were arrested in a swoop conducted by operatives of the police Flying Squad in different parts of Bunyoro including Masindi, Hoima city and Kikuube. During the operation, police recovered four vehicles.

Mr Hakiza said the police used Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to apprehend the culprits; requesting the general public with information leading to the arrest of the suspects to inform the police in order to deal with the criminals.

The numbers

Figures at the Albertine regional police headquarters indicate that nine vehicles were stolen in the region.

These include two Toyota Premios registration numbers UAT 322G and UAW 760F that were stolen from Kitole and Kyarushesha villages respectively in Kikuube district, a Toyota Corona and a Toyota Wish registration numbers UAJ 764S stolen from EDPA Medical Centre and UBB 533X both in Hoima city and a Toyota Premio registration number UAX 409U stolen from Nyangahya cell in Masindi municipality among others.
