In order to enhance skills and knowledge development among young talented people willing to participate in the oil and gas sector, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd has partnered with the Institute of Surveyors of Uganda (ISU) to offer internship for university students and training for EACOP staff.

The initiative that begins this year, will enhance competences through offering internship programmes for Makerere, Kyambogo and Ndejje University students and training of EACOP staff, according to the EACOP Managing Director, Mr Martin Tiffen.

Mr Tiffen revealed today (Thursday) during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two entities that the initiative will provide a three-month-training and internship placement for selected participating university students twice a year during breaks between semesters.

“This MoU is just one illustration of our national content strategy in practice that is aimed at optimising the use of Ugandan expertise, goods and services and building capacities. This initiative will enhance the skills and knowledge of both our staff and young Ugandans interested in participating in the oil and gas sector,” he said.

ISU President, Dr Nathan Kibwami, echoed the significance of commitment of the EACOP to the partnership with ISU to facilitate the delivery of quality training to future surveyors that will work on this incredible project.

He advised all students meeting the benchmarks for the cause to embrace the initiative.

“I thank EACOP for this commendable skilling initiative and urge all university students who meet the criteria for this programme and are interested in being part of the transformation of Uganda’s oil and gas industry to embrace it,” he said.
