Hoima is among the 12 districts where Airtel Uganda has switched on its new 29 masts countrywide.
Other districts include Kabarole, Mbarara, Gulu, Kampala, Jinja, Bushenyi, Luwero, Moroto, Wakiso, Rukungiri and isingiro.
The additional masts are part of the growing physical and virtual infrastructure of Airtel, according to the Networks Director, Mr Agarwal Rajesh.
He said the new sites will improve and catalyse the empowerment of customers and small and medium-sized enterprises respectively to access affordable data, voice and financial services across the country without differentiation.
Mr Rajesh added that the new sites will enable the expansion, adoption and usage of ICTs in transformative sectors including education, health and agriculture across the country.
Particularly, he said teachers and students are able to use online platforms to teach and expand their learning experiences, farmers can now access agricultural information to improve their farm productivity while business owners can utilise the voice, airtel money and data options on Airtel to operate their businesses more efficiently.
“Under the Parish Development Model, the country is focused on transforming the parishes and creating opportunities for the people. Airtel is supporting these efforts by building and deploying a Smartphone Network that is complementary to these efforts,” Mr Rajesh said.
The telecom boasts a growing network of more than 2,500 masts that are 5G ready and expanding fibre network across the country, he concluded.
